Kloovenburg Hiking Trails

The Kloovenburg hiking trail, starting from the lookout point at Eight Feet Village. Kloovenburg offers various day trails, ranging from easy, short walks to more strenuous, longer hikes. These trails lead into the shady green indigenous Kasteel Mountains, where wild indigenous flowers and lush mountain fynbos waits to be discovered.

Kloovenburg Wine & Olive Estate

The Riebeek Valley is renowned forits wines and olives. Kloovenburg is synonymous with Riebeek Valley. The first settlers, were the Bothmas who arrived in Riebeek Kasteel in 1704. The Du Toit Family who are now third generation, have turned the estate into a destination.

Made in Riebeek (M I R)

Made in Riebeek is a crafters paradise, which sells handmade goods made only in the Riebeek Valley area. MIR is also involved in community project called the Crochet Grannies, who crochet beautiful gifts for the MIR Shop.

The Garden

Alison Prest has lovingly cultivated a botanical garden over a period of thirty years and is now offering to share her knowledge and her creative spaces with anyone interested in indigenous plants. She shares tips on what and how to grow plants, their medicinal values and uses and how to incorporate a Japanese gardening philosophy into the mix. She’s open Saturday and Sunday’s of the first weekend of the month from 10h30, alternatively view on appointment.

Village Market

Riebeek Valley is a popular weekend destination for locals, which is why Riebeek Kasteel is always abuzz over a weekend. More so on the first Saturday of the month, between 09:00 – 13:00 when food vendors and artisans display their wares.

Plants, essential oils, clothing, jewellery, crafts and art adorn the Village Square and everyone is generally in a holiday mood. The Village Market is perfectly located for further wandering into the quaint and picturesque Riebeek Kasteel or visiting nearby wine and olive estates.
